ARTIST STATEMENT (English)
In order to create large-scale sculptures, I require an understanding of how our environment affects our state of mind. My site-specific light sculpture SCIENTIA will engage visitors in a dialogue with architecture and community. Therefore, the work encourages moments of realization while creating connection through the medium of light.
The project’s name SCIENTIA is a Latin word meaning knowledge. However, the word implies a socially interactive activity; the seeking and sharing of wisdom. This artwork will explore the human connection using our elemental understanding of the world—fire, water, earth, and light. Because of this primordial immersion, SCIENTIA provides a means of accessing our emotional selves. Thus, the work nurtures wellbeing and promotes community engagement.
Description:
LED light tubes interact with the Atrium of Cultures by twisting around the pillars in the room. Therefore, the light sculpture engages viewers in a dialogue with the architecture.
