A 9-foot light art installation connecting Manhattan Island and the Bronx.
Peruvian-american light artist Grimanesa Amoros' lighting installation is a 9-foot-wide installation at the Future Home of the expanded AIM project on 80th Street in Lower Manhattan, connecting Manhattan Island and the Bronx.
Media :LED, diffusion and reflection materials, custom lighting sequences, electronic hardware. Stainless steel.
Size :9 feet x5 feet 4 inches x5 feet 4 inches.
It's made of stainless steel, but not the traditional reflective material. The stainless steel used is mirrored, but there are not many places where the viewer can see a perfect reflection. The image one sees is blurry and slightly tilted, making it look almost like silver, hence the name argentum.
Since the work takes up most of the entrance, the audience is constantly interacting with it. When entering and leaving the work, observers see themselves, but like the speed of light, it can never be fully captured and can only be appreciated in motion.
