The Berlin based artist Philipp Geist works internationally with the media of video/light installation, photography and painting. Geist´s projects are characterized by their complexity and the integration of the location, the sound and moving images. In his video mapping installations, he avoids using canvasses and turns diverse architectures into moving, painterly light sculptures, which challenge the onlookers perception of two- and threedimensionality. In 2013 Geist received the German lighting design award in the category of light art for the installation Time Drifts. In 2014, during the Year of Germany in Brazil 2013/2014, Geist developed a video installation on the universally recognized statue of Christ the Redeemer in Rio de Janeiro and projected it large-scale on the Santa Marta favela. In December 2009, he showed a 4D mapping installation on the facade of the royal throne in Bangkok on the occasion of king Bhumibols 82nd birthday. The show was seen by 2,5 million of visitors. In the night of New Years Eve 2016/2017 Geist presented the installation Time Drifts Cologne on the Roncalliplatz in front of the cathedral in Cologne. Further light installations were, among others, the project Franfurt Fades on the Roemer (town hall) in Frankfurt on the occasion of the Luminale 2018, Chiesa Luterana di Venezia 2017 in Venice and Blue Night on the town hall in Nuremberg in 2017. In 2016, the following light installations were shown: The project Gate of Words on the Indian landmark Shaniwarwada in Pune (India) on the occasion of the Diwali Light Festival, on the Azadi tower in Teheran (Iran), in Dhaka (Bangladesh) and, for the first time in Western Africa, in Dakar on the occasion of the Art Biennale. In 2019 he showed a projection mapping installation from three sides on Walter Gropius historic Bauhaus building in Dessau. Geist has been accompanying Deutsche Grammophons Yellow Lounge since 2004, including AV projects with, among others, Ann-Sophie Mutter, Max Richter, Daniel Hope, Mari Samuelson and Gideon Kremer. Geist implements other AV projects with the conductor Kristjan Jaervi and the Baltic Sea Orchestra, including Elbphilharmonie Hamburg, Konzerthaus Berlin, Vienna, Moscow, Abu Dhabi and Dubai. On October 3, 2020, a large-scale installation showed 30 years of German reunification as part of the official ceremony. In October, Geist is showing an installation in Seoul.
