LightPlay is a glass sculpture that sculpts the sunlight and interacts with the architecture of a new 7 story mixed-use building in Center City Philadelphia. The sculpture is made of tempered glass panels with dichroic film which reflects and refracts the sunlight into bright colors that change as the sun or the viewer move past the building. It has two components: a series of panels running vertically up the face of the building and a canopy covering the exit from the subway station. The panels play with the window patterns and enrich the building’s elevation and overall architecture. The Canopy over the subway exit stair creates a memorable color environment for arriving into this “Art District”. On the sidewalk in the area the sunlight creates a choreography of light that includes the passers by in the colors. The piece changes throughout the day in shape and color. LED lights reflected onto the facade create related light effects at night.
