Coloured Waves is a suspended installation for the main atrium of the new Hospital in Whiston. The artwork is composed of four sculptures suspended from the atrium ceiling through steel wires; each of the four sculptures is made up of 25 fins, individually clipped within a stainless steel framework that occupies 450x100x100 cm.
Patterns of light are projected in the surrounding space, shifting in hue and intensity, thanks to the natural light coming through the glass wall.
Inspired by water’s reflections and waves’ shape, the artworks are made of dichroic glass that illuminates the space with soft ‘liquid’ colours to stir relief and ease emotions.
A Public Art project commissioned by Arts for Health, Manchester Metropolitan University.
