What appears to be an array of solid wood beams are positioned in a geometric arrangement between wall and ceiling. Their shapes evoke the ribs of a boat, or an abstract rib cage. The wooden forms illuminate seemingly impossibly from within, forming moving patterns that change depending on the time of day and viewer interaction. The light glows through the wood grain on both the outside and inside faces, creating additional fields and planes of color as the light diffuses on the wall.
This piece is part of an ongoing investigation of merging technology with natural materials, creating surprising juxtapositions of both form and behavior. In contrast with the usual lurid colors and artificial materials of most LED light, this has an innovative sharpness yet still feels warm and organic.
