The O.R.B mapping was made in September 2019 on Odawara Castle for the 1 minute projection mapping festival in Japan. Being myself a member of the jury, it was presented out of competition. On a short format, it develops around a recursive circle inspired by the Japanese national flag, a work of graphic research combining modernity and tradition. With more than 500 years of difference, it confronts the Japanese architectural heritage with the latest technologies related to image production. The use of lasers reinforces this anachronistic aspect.
The entire project was generated by my own software in real time. The choice not to use a conventional 3D rendering engine has a direct impact on the aesthetics of the images. The absence of shadow and precision on the textures forced me to find artifices to facilitate the good reading of often complex images. So it is tens of thousands of lines, points and polygons drawn as close as possible to the architecture of the castle bring it to life using algorithms.
