Nancy Hou

Josh de Sousa

We’re a New York based multi-disciplinary studio that promotes innovative and environmentally responsible design solutions. In addition to large scale art installations and sculptures， our team has built a variety of hospitality, residential, and public projects both domestically and abroad.

The studio takes on every project with fresh eyes, analyzing the broad objectives and unique nuances in order to streamline the design and construction process. This detailed focus carries through to the planning of spaces, tailoring of materials, and an emphasis on craftsmanship.

Over the past few years, the office has won design competitions hosted by the Architectural League of New York, Dupont Underground, Flatiron/23rd Street Partnership, Friends of the High Line, Georgetown BID, Google, the City of Kansas City, the Korean Ministry of Culture, the City of Sarasota, Socrates Sculpture Park, the Van Alen Institute, and Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority.

Nancy Hou
Originally from Shanghai, Nancy grew up in Quito, Ecuador and went on to receive her B. Arch from Cornell and her M. Arch from Harvard. Nancy has designed commercial and residential projects in both New York and Quito, including several Michelin star awarded restaurants. Prior to co-founding Hou de Sousa, Nancy worked at Slade Architecture and Kohn Pedersen Fox (KPF). Nancy is the Creative Director of HAAUS (Harvard Alumni Architectural and Urban Society) and a professor at Parsons School of Design. She has been a guest juror at The Cooper Union, Pratt Institute, and NYIT in addition to serving as a juror for the AIA DC, AIA Dallas, and the DNA Paris Design Awards.

Josh de Sousa
Before Hou de Sousa, Josh designed commercial, public, and institutional projects at Office for Metropolitan Architecture (OMA) and Skidmore Owings & Merrill (SOM). He received his Bachelor of Architecture degree from Cornell and a Master of Architecture from Harvard. Josh teaches at Parsons School of Design and frequently serves as a guest critic at universities such as Cornell, City College of New York, and Syracuse University. Josh has lectured at The Architectural League of New York and The National Building Museum while also serving as juror for the Re-Think Dupont Circle Competition and 2021 DNA Paris Design Awards.
