(Peace Bridge Authority of Fort Erie and Buffalo New York)。
Pierre Poussin’s artistic approach marries abstract concepts with practical functionality, which helps him create meaningful and monumental artworks. He creates sculptures for the public space it inhabits and for the community that the art work serves. Pierre strongly believes that public art should be fully experiential, and allow the viewer to fully immerse themselves in and around the work. Playing with juxtapositions such as nature vs. industrial, history vs. future, and dynamic vs. static, he creates public art installations that bring nature and history back into urban landscapes, while animating the public space it lives on.
Pierre is an expert in materials, industrial technologies, manufacturing techniques and industrial processes. Artistically, in the past, Pierre has specialized in creating large-scale public art installations and permanent exterior artworks for municipal and corporate clients as well as architects, landscape architects and urban developers. His goal is to develop pieces which embrace function and encourage interaction and curiosity, with past themes including: movement, nature, history, community, identity and technology.
Pierre Poussin is a Mauritian-Canadian artist based in Toronto. He studied biochemistry at the University of Ottawa, and graduated from the Furniture Design program at Sheridan College. He now specializes in large-scale public art installations that draws from the natural world, as well as urban communities and their diverse histories. Most recently, Pierre created an abstract and commemorative sculpture, Esprit (Alex Decoteau Park, for the City of Edmonton), Exported Floras (Florian Tower, Yorkville, Toronto), and Cascades (Bayview Station, for the City of Ottawa).
He is currently producing Ursa, a soaring 10m high cast aluminum sculpture (Kelowna, B.C.) and Brick Obelisk, a backlit 9.6m tall Corten obelisk (Carlaw + Dundas Triangle, for the City of Toronto).
Over the last decade, Pierre has worked with a wide range of clients including: the Cities of Ottawa, Toronto, Vancouver and Edmonton, The 2010 Winter Olympics and Paralympics Games, Princeton University, McMaster University, Sheridan College, Centre for Addiction and Mental Health, Concord Adex Developments’ Panorama, Quartz & Lumen Condominium Complexes, North American Development Group and Kerkhoff Construction’s One Water Street Complex, Diamante Development Corporations Florian Tower, Pinnacle International Developments Uptown Mississauga Complex, Nienkämper Furniture, the Walt Disney Corporation, XM Radio for Toyota/Lexus Canada, Toronto’s Royal Canadian Yacht Club and the Peace Bridge Authority of Fort Erie and Buffalo New York.
